Archaeological Site of Phaistos

Honoring heritage through light.
At the historically significant archaeological site of Phaistos, an emblematic landmark of Minoan civilization, the challenge was to design a lighting scheme that highlighted the site’s architectural features while respecting its cultural legacy. The goal was to offer visitors a serene, immersive experience after dusk.
Our approach focused on minimizing light pollution and ensuring visitor safety by using high-quality, durable materials that seamlessly blended into the landscape. In the royal apartments of the north wing, sheltered by a canopy, as well as in the large hall of the west wing and the central courtyard, we applied low lighting levels with warm tones and wide beams, softly diffused to eliminate glare and harsh hotspots.
This subtle lighting enhanced the site’s beauty, allowing visitors to experience the grandeur of Phaistos in a calm and respectful light. Anti-glare solutions further refined the lighting, inviting exploration while preserving the archaeological site’s authenticity and integrity.
